Pros and cons of physical servers

The Cloud seems like a cost effective and worth while solution, but is it really. In certain respects Absolutely! I refer to hosting and exchange or email service. The minimal costs incurred in hosting an email system far out weigh those of an onsite Exchange platform. Also a hosted service providers greater security, greater reliability and greater performance.

Keeping Data Physical is hard to argue. With Cloud systems the internet goes out, your business is left with nothing. The cost of solid, uninterrupted Internet service is decreasing, but reliability is still a factor. As more demand from more virtual servers is placed on the physical servers/servers, a serious degradation in performance could be experienced across the board, and could negatively affect service-oriented or real-time business operations.

Licensing can become an issue quickly as many applications and software are not supported for sharing. Furthermore, depending on which operating system you choose to go with, make sure it’s properly licensed for your environment – there could be a significant cost impact depending on whether it’s installed on a physical or number of virtual servers
